The BrightAI dev team has contributed to the actual Linux kernel of Inginuity which i.e. is the operating system that drives the hardware. This contribution to one of the most advanced technological challenges of our age has resulted in a prestigious Github Accomplishment Badge.

Besides the code in the Linux kernel, we also contributed with the JPEG-LS loss-less image encoder. JPEG-LS uses very low FPGA resources and is one of the best loss-less algorithms, on par with the much bulkier JPEG-2000 in lossless mode. Our implementation encodes a pixel colour sample on each clock cycle, up to 4K and beyond, up to 16-bits per pixel. This application has also been deployed in recent satellite missions.

The Mars Helicopter, Ingenuity, is a technology demonstration to test powered, controlled flight on another world for the first time. It hitched a ride to Mars on the Perseverance roverOnce the rover reached a suitable “airfield” location, it released Ingenuity to the surface so it could perform a series of test flights over a 30-Martian-day experimental window.
